Photonics & Optical Radiometry

National Laboratory of Optical Radiometry

Services at primary level

DFM is the national laboratory for optical radiometry and in combination with our photonics laboratory we are able to provide accredited measurements and calibrations in a wide range.

We work constant to develop new services that are in demand by Danish companies but also to improve existing services.

We offer services within:

  • Calibration of detectors and power meters
  • Calibration of wavelengths
  • RIN measurements
  • OTDR calibration
  • Characterization of light sources
  • Development of test setups
  • Custom measurements

If you have questions, are looking for guidance or can not find what you are looking for on our website then contact us.

Detector and power meter calibration

DFM can offer calibration of detectors and power meters with traceability to the Danish primary standard. The calibrations can be made within the visible and the infrared wavelength range. In addition, DFM also offers linearity measurements.

Accredited calibration in the area:

Effect and / or responsiveness, visible area:

Power range: 10 nW – 2 mW

Wavelength range: 476, 488, 514 and 550 – 860 nm

Accredited calibrations are performed in accordance with DANAK Accreditation Reg. Nr. 255 as well as our internally ISO 9001 certified quality system.

Wavelength

DFM can offer optical wavelength calibration performed with lasers stabilized to molecular reference lines. The following measurements and calibrations are made:

  • Measurement of laser wavelength
  • Measurement of wavelength of light emitting diodes
  • Calibration of optical spectrum analyzers
  • Calibration of wave meters

RIN measurements

DFM offers measurement of Relative Intensity Noise (RIN), an important parameter for characterization of lasers in optical communication, bio-optics, LIDAR sensing and many other areas. RIN is specified as the relative power density over a specified frequency range, given in dBc / Hz.

  • Advanced self-homodyne detection
  • Wide wavelength range
  • High bandwidth
  • Low noise floor

Calibration in the area:

Wavelength: 400 – 1800 nm

Bandwidth: 25 kHz – 150 MH

Characterization of UV light sources

In order to be able to use UV light in an optimal and safe way, it is necessary to be able to characterize the light very accurately. DFM has therefore developed methods for traceable measurement of UV light with a special focus on measuring light from UV LEDs, which are really gaining ground in the industry in recent years.

DFM offers accredited for measuring:

  • Spectral radiance and irradiance.
  • Photobiological safety assessment and classification.
  • Special measurements of UV light.

Accredited calibration in the area:
